200 Hour Teaching Training Teaching Style: Back Care, Yin |
I love teaching yoga to avoid pain and injury. I incorporate different techniques of yoga such as Yin, traditional Hatha Flow, Yoga Nidra and Myofascial Release into my teaching and personal practices. Pain and injury include physical and emotional which I work to bring helpful tools to the mat.
I am new to the yoga teaching journey (but not new to teaching!). I received my 200 hour certification in 2021 and will soon complete my 500 hours. I began practicing yoga in 2004 as an adjunct to my other activities. I saw it as a way to stay flexible and blow some steam. In 2018, I had ankle reconstructive surgery requiring me to be non-weight bearing for 6 months. Not able to work or do many other activities, I discovered Yin Yoga which did not require me to stand. Dealing with depression and an injury the lifestyle of yoga finally clicked. It became a passion. My instructor and mentor encouraged me to do teacher training to expand my knowledge and to share my experiences. I am a nurse practitioner and chiropractor focused on internal medicine, geriatric and LGBTQ+ health concerns. You can always find me on a trail somewhere or in the garden. I moved to Arizona from Seattle this past year and am loving the sunshine!! Shawna's teaching style is calm and relaxed, with a touch of humor for good measure. Her background in gymnastics and massage therapy gives her a unique understanding of the human body and the way it moves. Her classes are grounded in the mind-body connection, focusing on breathwork, ease of movement, and proper alignment. |
