200 Hour Hatha Yoga Teacher Training Graduate Restorative Teacher Training |
Shawna came to yoga in her late teens as a natural transition from her training as a gymnast, and how now been practicing asana off and on for more than 20 years. In 2002 she completed her training as a massage therapist at the Nevada School of Massage Therapy and passed her National Certification for Therapeutic Massage & Bodywork (NCTMB) exam. In 2007 she decided that a change of career was in order and went back to school to receive her degree in interior design, graduation in 2010. In 2017 a family medical emergency brought her life to a halt and her career took a backseat to her new role as a caregiver. As her life started to settle again, she returned to her yoga practice for the calm it had always given her. Then in 2018, her regular yoga instructor at the gym she went to announced that she was moving out of state and asked if Shawna would be interested in taking over some of her classes. Shawna agreed, but decided that she should probably get some formal training in the teaching of yoga. On the recommendation of her instructor, Shawna came to The Yoga Connection and enrolled in their 200 Hour Teacher Training program, graduating in March 2019. She received her Arizona massage therapy license in 2021 (Arizona license # MT-27633).
Shawna's teaching style is calm and relaxed, with a touch of humor for good measure. Her background in gymnastics and massage therapy gives her a unique understanding of the human body and the way it moves. Her classes are grounded in the mind-body connection, focusing on breathwork, ease of movement, and proper alignment. |
