Melissa found a love for yoga in her twenties after discovering a hot yoga studio down the road from her home. She practiced there through college and found an even deeper love for yoga while traveling the country as a military spouse. In 2010, while living in Alabama Melissa was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis and yoga took a backseat. A couple years later, knowing she needed more and wanted to deepen her practice, Melissa took 6 months of courses in Santa Fe, New Mexico learning the basics of Iyengar yoga and the use of props. A very new concept to Melissa. Melissa used this knowledge to deepen her own practice and find much needed balance in life. In 2018, MS took its toll on Melissa while she was working as a supervisor of mental health practitioners. At this time trusted health professionals warned Melissa of disability looming and that slowing down was essential if she wanted to continue living an active lifestyle. Lost and heartbroken, Melissa was forced to quit a career she was passionate about to better her health. Yoga called once again, and Melissa got her 200-hour certification at The Yoga Connection in early 2019. Melissa saw firsthand how healing yoga and meditation can be. In 2020 as a worldwide pandemic settled across the nation, Melissa felt a draw to deepen her own practice and personal healing journey, so she got her 300hr certification with a focus on healing and balancing chakras through movement and nutrition. Melissa believes wholeheartedly in the ability of one to help themselves through movement, meditation and positive thinking and is excited to share with others knowledge, information, and a love for the practice. |
